<p>A rectifying circuit which comprises first and second circuit networks, means to present the positive and negative half-cycles of an alternating input signal alternately to the two networks, a smoothing device in each branch network to convert the respective half-wave signal into a DC signal, and means to combine the DC signals from the two branch networks so as to produce an output signal whose magnitude is equal to the sum of the moduli of the two DC signals. Zero crossing detector 439 operates switches 440-443 to divert alternate half-cycles of the input into two channels each with its own smoothing network 445, 446. The smoothed outputs are summed 447 to provide a peak-to-peak measurement which is used for coin discrimination in a coin operated device. <IMAGE></p> |
