A self-threading dental anchor pin including a manipulating end section (12) for coupling to a cooperating driving tool, and at least one threaded anchoring portion (14 or 16) provided with 60-100 threads per inch (23.6-39.4 threads per cm) at a pin diameter of 0.024 inch (0.61 mm), preferably 84 threads per inch (33.0 threads per cm) with standard threads and 96 threads per inch (37.8 threads per cm) with a buttress type thread, to provide for fast insertion with minimum torque. The anchoring portion (14 or 16) has a pilot end portion (36) equal in length to the thread pitch of 0.010 to 0.012 inches (0.25 to 0.30mm). Each thread has a height of approximately 0.0020 to 0.0025 inches (0.051 to 0.063mm). Stop members may be spaced midway along the length of each anchoring portion (14 or 16) to limit the depth of insertion thereof into a bore which extends into a tooth understructure. The stop members can be formed by providing an unthreaded portion, by deforming, heading, offsetting, stamping, splaying, and the like. <IMAGE> |
