<p>In a data modem an input means for providing an input into the modem: fixed memory within the modem for storing data representative of a plurality of possible strapping configurations for the modem; means responsive to the input means for loading into an alterable memory the data from a selected location from the fixed memory or other data representative of a modem strapping configuration; and means within the modem responsive to what is in the alterable memory for configuring the modem. The input means includes a local operator interface panel on the modem, but may also be responsive to input received by the modem over the data transmission link to which the modem is connected from, e,g., a remote modem, a network controller on a remote data terminal equipment. Testing and status checks of the modem can also be selected and software implemented in the modem through the input means. The display panel is arranged in a plurality of seven segment digital displays, with verticle segments of adjacent digits being employed to display a binary 1 (upper verticle segment) or zero (lower verticle segment) existing in a memory location being displayed.</p> |
