PURPOSE:To prevent generation of a noise of the captioned engine which ceases operation of some cylinders in case of low load by changing over operation of an intake/exhaust valve of a stopped cylinder to the stopped side when said cylinder is closed. CONSTITUTION:A rocker arm 8 of each intake/exhaust valve 9 is supported by means of a hydraulic tappet 10 and zero lash adjustment is performed. The hydraulic tappet 10 of an intake/exhaust valve mechanism of every other cylinder in the order of ignition, is provided with a pressure control valve 29. In case of low load for an engine, when the intake/exhaust valve of a cylinder to cease operation is closed, synchronously with output from a detector of engine rotation, a check ball 18 is pushed down and a pressure chamber 15 is put in communication with a reservoir chamber 14. Thus, the valve is not suddenly closed while it is open, and generation of the noise is prevented. |
