PURPOSE:To provide an anti-freeze having excellent effects of preventing the deposition of scale and of inhibiting the corrosion of metal constituting the cooling system of an automobile engine, by adding a specified copolymer to an anti- freeze mainly composed of a glycol. CONSTITUTION:A copolymer having an MW of 500-50,000 and composed of 24-75mol% of a polyalkylene glycol monoallyl ether of formula I (wherein m, n are each a positive integer including 0 and m+n=1-100), 24-75mol% of a maleic acid compd. monomer of formula II [wherein R1, R2 are each H, methyl; X, Y are each a group of formula III (wherein R3 is H, a 1-20C alkyl; p+q=0-100), a mono-or bivalent metal, an ammonium group, an org. amine group] is used. 0.2-3wt% said copolymer is added to an anti-freeze comprising a glycol, water and a corrosion inhibitor such as borax or benzotriazole.
