<p>PURPOSE:To improve the thermal efficiency in a furnace and to carry out efficient melt-refining by properly holding the ratio between the depth of a molten iron bath and inside diameter of the bath and ratio between the area of a firing spot and the surface area of the bath during the blowing of gaseous oxygen. CONSTITUTION:When molten iron is subjected to recarburization melt-refining by blowing gaseous oxygen from the top while blowing an agitating gas from the bottom, conditions satisfying equations L/D >=0.5 and S/LS >=0.5 are maintained during the blowing of gaseous oxygen. In the equations, L is the depth (m) of the molten iron bath, D is the inside diameter (m) of the bath, S is the area of a firing spot, and LS in the surface area of the bath. The temp. of the molten metal is controlled to <=1,500 deg.C during decarburization refining with gaseous oxygen, and it is preferable that the amount of slag produced during the decarburization refining is controlled to <=15kg per 1 ton molten steel. By this method the melt-refining of scrap iron, iron ore, etc. can be carried out efficiently.</p> |
