PURPOSE:To provide an adhesive excellent in bondability between an ethylene/ vinyl alcohol copolymer and polystyrene, by incorporating a particular modified ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer as a major component. CONSTITUTION:Styrene-based vinyl monomers (e.g., styrene) and alpha,beta-unsatd. carboxylic acids (e.g., maleic anhydride, acrylic acid) are subjected to graft copolymn. onto ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymers in the presence of radical polymn. initiators (e.g., benzoyl peroxide). The resulting grafted copolymers are incorporated as a major component to prepare the intended adhesive. Three-layer laminates comprising an ethylene/vinyl alcohol copolymer, said adhesive as an inner layer, and polystyrene have high gas barrier properties and are useful as deep- drawing materials because of the excellent moldability and particularly available for containers for preservation of frozen foods. |
