This cylindrical helical spring 1, intended for mechanical sealing linings, has a counter-elbow 4 between each of its end coils 2 and the corresponding second coil 5, in the vicinity of the end lug 3. The end coil 2 is thus rendered flat over almost all of its circumference, whilst the adjacent coil 5 comprises, in line with the lug a plane portion 6, which is parallel to this end coil 2, which can be spot-welded to the latter. The torsional rigidity is thus notably increased, without detracting from the lateral elasticity. An angular offset of 90 DEG of the lugs 3 moreover ensures a better balance of the spring 1. <IMAGE>
