PURPOSE:To minimize the number of times of data input/output by selecting only a required number of strings from strings of candidates of the merge processing in the descending order of string length and taking out selected strings from a disc file and performing the merge processing to generate a new string and repeating this operation. CONSTITUTION:An external file 10 is connected to a CPU 20 constituting the center of a system, and a main memory 30 and a disc file 40 where various programs and data are stored are connected to the CPU 20. The main memory 30 includes an input buffer 31 and an output buffer 32 which are used in the data input phase, an input buffer 31 and an output buffer 32 which are used in the merge phase and the data output phase, and a string attribute recording table 35 where attribute information of each merge object string is recorded. Attribute information of individual strings are generated in the ascending order of string length on this STR table 35, and a merging part 23 executes the merge phase in accordance with contents of the STR table 35. |
