The invention relates to an automatic coupling for model railway vehicles. In model vehicles of relatively large track gauges, virtually all structural details of the full-scale originals are visible, including the coupling. The couplings hitherto used in such model railways are designed, in appearance and function, in accordance with the full-scale originals. Since such couplings can only be released manually, and this furthermore requires considerable dexterity, such couplings are unsuitable for a realistically proceeding operation of the model railway. To solve this problem, an automatic coupling is proposed which consists of a hook and coupling shackle and in which a hanging part (13) is arranged fixedly on the hook (14) and protrudes vertically from the coupling (11), and which furthermore has at its free end (15) a shackle part (17) which can be pivoted in the hook direction (16) and has a lever attachment (18), at the free end (19) of which is rotatably arranged a lifting rod (20) for the pivoting actuation of the coupling shackle (12), in order to release a coupling connection. An automatic coupling designed in this manner is released when it is moved via an uncoupling piece formed in the track body. The hanging part (13) is realistically incorporated into the coupling (11). <IMAGE>
