In the method for producing cable harnesses, the individual conductors from a cable are cut to length, stripped of insulation and provided with plugs. These prefabricated individual conductors are subsequently combined to form the cable harness. Before being joined together to form the cable harness, the individual conductors are detachably connected to one another so that they can be stored or placed in a magazine in an ordered manner. The device for carrying out this method is provided with a machine for attachment of the plugs to the stripped individual conductors and with a feed unit. The machine has a connecting unit arranged downstream of it, the latter being connected to the machine by means of the feed unit for the individual conductors and having a coupling device by means of which the individual conductors, which are provided with plugs, can be detachably connected to one another. The individual conductors can be joined together, using the device, mechanically, cost-effectively and with a low time penalty.
