The invention relates to a base for cable junction cabinets, consisting of side pieces having mounting flanges, front-wall plates, rear-wall plates and a base plate. The mounting flanges of the side pieces have locking projections, and the rear-wall plates and the front-wall plates have locking claws which engage behind the locking projections in the mounted position. The upper edges of the front-wall plates and rear-wall plates are constructed as tongues, and the lower edges of the front-wall plates and rear-wall plates are constructed as grooves. In consequence, tongue and groove connections, which are locked in the mounted position, are formed between the front-wall plates on the one hand and the rear-wall plates on the other hand, so that additional attachment means, such as screw connections, can be dispensed with. In addition, both a closed and an open construction can be implemented quickly and easily in a manner which makes mounting easy. <IMAGE>
