PURPOSE:To provide a titled converter which decreases the temp. drop during tapping and can improve the effect of economizing energy by setting the sectional area of the tap hole of a converter within the range meeting the rate of charging. CONSTITUTION:The sectional area (y) of the tap hole of a pretreating converter for a molten iron consisting of a furnace mouth, and the tap hole provided near the crossing point of the body part on the side opposite from the charging side and the cone part of the furnace mouth is set within the range shown by the following relation: y>7.2+2.67x, where x; the rate of charging, t, y; the sectional area of the tap hole, cm<2>. The excessively high upper limit of said area gives rise to the nuisance of the contact of the tapping flow with a trunnion or the scattering, etc. thereof and therefore said area is determined individually according to the shape of the furnace body and the mating with a ladle. The tap hole sized within the above-mentioned range contributes to the decrease in the outflow of slag to the ladle, the decrease in the temp. drop during tapping and prevention of rephosphorization. |
