A filter apparatus has two filter elements (4, 5) arranged in a filter housing (1), one filter side of which elements is connected to an outlet (14) for the clean liquid and the other filter side of which can be connected individually to an inlet (24) for the dirty liquid via a main control means (22) formed as a three-way tap. The filter apparatus also has an auxiliary control means (28), which can be actuated at the same time as the spigot of the main control means and as a function of the position thereof and which is constructed as a shut-off valve, to connect the other filter side of one of the filter elements with the connection (33) for the dirty liquid, when this filter element is disconnected from the inlet by the main control means. In order to be able to use both filter elements simultaneously for filtering and also to be able to backwash each of the two filter elements separately, the two filter elements each have a connection, controllable by the auxiliary control means, to the dirty liquid connection, as soon as and as long as the filter element in question is disconnected from the inlet, the auxiliary control means at any one time opening only one of the connections between the filter element and the connection for the dirty liquid (Fig. 2). <IMAGE> |
