In the dyeing of cellulose webs with reactive dyes, dye fixing without prior intermediate drying is more and more popular in practice. While wet batch processes require suitable machinery for this object and are therefore cost-intensive, in the case of fixation by wet-steaming difficulties occur again and again as a result of flucuating steam conditions and on account of condensation phenomena. According to the invention, the existing problems are dealt with by preheating the wet material from dye application with IR or microwave radiation to from 75 DEG C to the boiling point of the liquor and then immediately thereafter steaming for 1-15 seconds with HT steam.
