PURPOSE:To provide a small-type heat transfer type serial printer capable of recording at high speed and at low running cost, by enabling to record in both directions through effectively utilizing a heat transfer type ink ribbon for recording multiple times. CONSTITUTION:A carriage 4 starts to be moved rightward by a carriage driver, while a recording head 6 is pressed against a platen 2 through an ink ribbon and a recording paper 1 by driving a head-lifting motor 7, and heat transfer recording in forward movement is started by a recording signal. Then, the carriage 4 starts to be moved leftward by the carriage driver. At the time of changing over from the forward movement to the backward movement and vice versa, it is sufficient to take up the ribbon by an amount equal to 1/N times of the length of one line, so that it can be contrived to enhance recording speed by recording in both directions. For the same length of the ink ribbon, recording capability is increased by N times, the frequency of replacement is reduced, and the running cost is reduced. For the same recording capability, the length of the ink ribbon is shortened, the winding diameter of the ribbon is reduced, and the size of the printer can also be reduced. |
