Passages for people, which are located in self-service shops, generally consist of a turnstile and fences which adjoin to the right and to the left of the turnstile. In this connection, it continues to happen that children, who fiddle about in a playful manner on the turnstile, are caught between the turnstile and the fences. It is true that passages for people are now equipped with safety devices which make it possible either to turn the turnstile backwards or to remove the turnstile head, but apparently these devices are not always adequate. The invention therefore proposes a passage for people (1), in which not only the turnstile (2) is equipped with safety devices but in which parts of the fences (8, 15) are also provided so that they can be moved away from the turnstile (2). A person who is caught can thus be freed from being caught much more simply and without danger. <IMAGE>
