An appliance for the separation and lifting out of fodder blocks from flat silos consists of a separating unit which separates a fodder block laterally from the silage above the tines inserted into this. The separated fodder block bearing on the tines passes, as a result of the pivoting of the tines through 90 DEG , onto cutting rollers which remove layer after layer from the fodder block and dump the comminuted material onto a discharge conveyor belt. <IMAGE>
