<p>PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid crystal display device stable against the lapse of time by filling smectic liquid crystals between 2 base plates coated with a specified compd. subjected to orientation treatment. CONSTITUTION:The liquid crystal display device comprises a glass base plate 1, an SiO2 film 2, a transparent conductive film 3, an orienting film 4, sealing parts 5, and chiral smectic liquid crystals 6. The film 4 is formed by applying and heating alkylalkoxysilane represented by the general formula: R1Si(OR)3 or R3R2Si(OR)2 in which R1, R2 are each 4-24 C alkyl, and R3 is lower alkoxy, and R is <11 C alkyl. The liquid crystals are oriented homeotropically. As a result, a liquid crystal display device stable against the lapse of time can be obtained.</p> |
