PURPOSE:To avoid defective sealing which may be caused by blowoff or scattering of electrolyte during welding of a metallic pipe by making the liquid level of electrolyte contained in the can lower than the lower end of the metallic pipe. CONSTITUTION:A positive electrode 3 is installed inside a negative electrode 2 installed in a can 1, with a basket-like separator 4 made of a nonwoven glass fabric interposed. Next, a metal top 11 having a center hole 8 to which a stainless steel pipe 10 also serving as a positive terminal is attached with a glass seal member 9 interposed, is airtightly fused to the opening of the top surface of the can 1 by laser welding. Next, electrolyte 13 is poured into the can 1 through a pipe 10 so that the liquid level is lower than the lower end of the pipe 10. After that, a sealing pin 14 is inserted in the pipe 10 before the pipe 10 and the pin 14 are fused by laser welding so as to seal the pipe 10, thereby manufacturing a lithium-thionyl chloride battery. |
