PURPOSE:To make separation easy by providing a picture element extracting means, density histogram generating means, density range determining means, means which clusters picture elements into every pattern, and an expanding means. CONSTITUTION:An original picture to be separated is displayed on a display mechanism 1, and data of the picture is inputted to an extracting mechanism 2, and only picture elements of the picture whose density differs from picture elements surrounding them are kept to a certain value or less are extracted. Picture data after the extracting operation is led to a histogram generating mechanism 3 to generate a density histrogram. A density range is determined on a basis of the peak density position and the peak height of each component of the histogram by a density range determining mechanism 4. With respect to picture elements which are extracted beforehand by the extracting mechanism 2, picture elements included in the determined density range are clustered by a clustering mechanism 5. Each of picture elements, which are not clustered by the clustering operation, out of picture element extracted by the extracting mechanism 2 is subjected to an expansion processing by an expanding operation mechanism 6. |
