In an overhead conductor in which an optical fibre is loosely housed in the bore of a circumferentially rigid central metal core the optical fibre is secured to the central core at each of a plurality of longitudinally spaced positions along the length of the conductor by a local deposit of resin. The part of the optical fibre extending between any two local deposits of resin is loosely housed in, and of a length substantially greater than that of, that part of the bore. Risk that the excess length of the optical fibre will accumulate at the lowest point of the bore of a suspended conductor is thereby reduced.
|
