DOUBLE ACTING HYDRAULIC ACCUMULATOR FOR POWER SHIFT TRANSMISSION A double acting hydraulic accumulator in a power shift transmission comprising, a source of pressurized fluid and a modulating valve, a first and a second accumulator each including a first and a second piston axially aligned in a single cylinder with each piston defining a pressurizing chamber with the accumulator, resilient means positioned in a spring chamber between the pistons biasing the pistons to a minimum volume position of the pressurizing chambers, the first accumulator defining a passage connected to the pressurizing chamber and through the modulating valve to the source of pressurized fluid and a control valve, the second accumulator defining a passage connected to the pressurizing chamber and through the modulating valve to the source of pressurizing fluid and a control valve, a valve in each of the pistons blocking fluid flow from the pressurizing chamber into the spring chamber and permitting flow from the spring chamber to the pressurizing chamber, the valve alternately causing the accumulator to operate as an accumulator responsive to application of pressure in the pressurizing chamber and permitting flow from the spring chamber to the pressurizing chamber when pressurizing chamber when pressure is relieved. |
