PURPOSE:To prevent degradation of the engine performance, exhust-gas purifying performance, etc., by employing such an arrangement that, in case that judgement is made that a temperature sensor has caused some trouble, and estimate value determined by the output value of the temperature sensor produced before the sensor trouble is caused and an integral value of the engine speed after the sensor trouble is caused is outputted as the engine temperature. CONSTITUTION:In operation of an engine, output signal of a temperature sensor 100 for detecting the engine temperature is stored temporarily in a temporary storing means 101, and the sensor output is applied to a sensor trouble detecting means 102, which judges whether or not the sensor output is within the range of the upper-limit temperature and the lower-limit temperature that can be produced possibly by the sensor 100 when operation of the sensor 100 is normal. In case that judgement is made by the sensor trouble detecting means 102 that the sensor 100 has caused some trouble, whether or not the sensor trouble is caused during the while when the engine is warmed up is judged by an engine condition judging means 104 on the basis of the sensor output stored in the temporary storing means 101 just before the sensor trouble is caused. Here, if judgement is made that the sensor trouble is caused while warming up the engine, an estimate value determined by the value of the sensor output produced just before the sensor trouble is caused and an integral value of the engine speed just after the sensor trouble is caused is produced as the engine temperature. |
