PURPOSE:To obtain an inexpensive multi-color printing apparatus generating no color shift, by providing a dot printing head of which the relative position with a line head is fixed and a light pick-up means to the lateral part of the line head. CONSTITUTION:In printing using a first color, for example, yellow, a driver 100 is driven in synchronous relation to an internal reference clock source 12 to perform printing at every one line and, at the same time, dot printing is performed by a dot printing means 10 comprising thermal elements corresponding to one dot. In printing a magenta, a cyan or a black on and after a second color, a printing dot due to the dot printing means comprising thermal elements corresponding to one dot, which were simultaneously formed at the time of yellow printing, is read as a line marker by a light pick-up means 11 comprising an optical sensor and line printing is changed over on the basis of reading by a line start signal generating part 15 so as to synchronize with line printing. |
