<p>PURPOSE:To remove safely the metallic coating of a metal coated fiber in a short time without scratching the surface of the optical fiber by using the metallic coating as a cathode and supplying electric current to the metal-coated fiber through an alkaline electrolytic soln. which dissolves the coating. CONSTITUTION:A cathode terminal 7 is connected to the surface of a metal coated fiber 1, and the fiber 1 is slowly lowered to immerse the connecting end part whose metallic coating 1b is to be dissolved in an electrolytic soln. 3 by an arbitrary length. An electrically conductive insoluble substance 4 is also immersed in the soln. 3. When electric current flows through the substance 4, the soln. 3, the coating 1b of the fiber 1, the terminal 7 and a variable resistance 6 from a power source 5, gaseous hydrogen is generated on the surface of the coating 1b as a cathode. An oxide film on the surface of the coating 1b is mechanically removed by the generation of gaseous hydrogen, and the exposed metal is dissolved in the electrolytic soln., so the coating 1b is removed.</p> |
