PURPOSE:To obtain continuously a thin billet having a good surface characteristic directly from a molten metal by combining a solidifying device consisting of the moving mold surfaces of twin belts and stationary walls regulating respectively the thickness and width of the billet and a device for correcting shape consisting of a cooling roll pair. CONSTITUTION:A continuous solidifying device 3 consists of surface moving molds 1a, 1b consisting of a pair of endless belts which are disposed to face each other apart at the prescribed space for regulating the thickness of a billet and rotate in the directions opposite from each other and stationary walls 2a, 2b which regulate the width of the billet. A molten metal from a tundish 9 is cooled in contact with the relatively long molds 1a, 1b formed of the belts and while solidified shells are formed, the molten metal is drawn continuously downward in the form of a plate-shaped billet. Cooling rolls 4a, 4b which pinch immediately the billet are installed right under the device 3 and the plate-shaped billet is corrected in shape to the thin billet having a desired thickness by the light rolling reduction by a device 5 for correcting shape consisting of said rolls. |
