PURPOSE:To provide a phenolic resin compsn. which has excellent quick-curability, stability against cylinder, flow characteristics, etc. and gives moldings having excellent flexural strength, appearance, etc., by blending polyhydroxystyrene with a novolak type phenolic resin. CONSTITUTION:1-30wt% polyhydroxystyrene of the formula (wherein n is 2 or greater) such as poly-o-hydroxystyrene or poly-p-hydroxystyrene is blended with a novolak type phenolic resin obtd. by reacting a phenol with formaldehyde in the presence of an acidic catalyst and carrying out dehydration. Optionally, a parting agent such as wax or paraffin, a colorant such as carbon black or red oxide, a curing accelerator such as an org. amine compd. or an org. acid, an inorg. filler, etc. are mixed with the resulting mixture to obtain the desired phenolic resin compsn. |
