The invention relates to a long-reach davit making it possible to launch a small lifesaving craft at a distance from the hull of a ship. The davit comprises a movable assembly consisting of a gantry 16 mounted pivotably on a fixed framework 10, of a girder 18 mounted pivotably on the gantry 16, and of a gib 20 mounted pivotably on the girder 18 and carrying the small craft 40 at its end. A winch 52 and cables 48 and 62 make it possible to control the deployment of the davit in order to launch the small craft. <IMAGE>
