Producing laminated flooring - with base contg. selectively heat-expandable foam by covering with plastisol, sprinkling shreds, and heating

The process is intended for manufacturing laminated flooring material. A carrier is covered with a layer of heat-foamable plastic on which a layer of a foaming inhibitor (or accelerator) is applied in a predetermined pattern (A). This is covered with a layer of transparent plastic into which small shreds or flakes are introduced to produce an (iridescent) colour effect. Improvement is that the transparent plastics layer is formed by applying a plastisol, sprinkling the shreds into the soft plastisol and press tham down after which this layer is caused to gellify (by heating). Instead of shreds, pre-formed platelets each containing a number of shreds may be thus sprinkled. Sprinkling may be distributed according to a (or the) pre-determined pattern.
