Insulated exhaust pipe for vehicle engine

The fixed tube (1) to be insulated has a bent part and has a short mandrel (2) fitted to its free end. This is dome shaped and is inserted into a resilient insulating sleeve (5) protected by a corrugated outer sleeve (4). The insulating sleeve is expounded against the corrugated sleeve when the fixed tube has been inserted. The corrugated sleeve is of aluminium, steel or aluminium coated steel, and the insulating sleeve is of woven, flocked or knitted material using e.g. mineral fibres. In another method, the insuation is fitted inside the tube using an external collar.
