This welding-torch holder intended to be mounted on a motorised positioning mechanism comprises self-contained compact means for short and precise movement in at least two orthogonal directions. It consists of a first rotational drive unit 1 using a micro-gear motor 5 of a first screw 14, parallel to one of the said two orthogonal directions, and of a second rotational drive unit 1', identical to the first 1, using micro-gear motor 5' of a second screw 14', parallel to the other direction, these two units 1, 1' being kinematically connected together by means of an intermediate unit 2 comprising two orthogonal and substantially contiguous nuts 19, 20 screwed respectively to the first 14 and second 14' screws, the intermediate unit 2 being able to move on each screw 14, 14' as a function of the rotation of the latter, over a certain length which is limited by two stops 9, 10. <IMAGE>
