PURPOSE:To measure the quantities of electrostatic charging of individual toner particles and their particle sizes without reference to whether they are plus or minus by making a single charged particle which has unknown density fall freely into a space where gravitational force, air resistance, and an electric field operate at the same time. CONSTITUTION:Toner T stuck on carriers C are put in a ball mill together with the carriers C and mixed to saturate them with electrostatic charge. The focus of a record ing camera 5 is fixed at a specific position between electrode copper plates 3a of an electric field producing device 3 before the start of measurement, the two copper plates 3a are set vertically, and then the output of a stabilized DC power source 3d is set to an optional value. The mixture of the toner T and carrier C which are charged electrostatically put in the glass tube 1a of a toner carrier separating device with the output of a pulse light generating device 4 and the low frequency oscillator 1e of a vibration generating device 1 is oscillated; and the output of an amplifier 1f is increased to vibrate a speaker 1c, thereby separating the toner T and carriers C. Toner particles passing through a net 1b pass through a passage 2 and is photographed by the camera 5 when falling between the copper plates 3a. |
