The ignition electrodes (5) and heaters (6) of the small diameter, 26mm, fluorescent lamp tube are connected through a phase shift dimmer circuit (3). The adjustable phase shift circuitry (8) is connected via a diode bridge (10) with electronic interrupter switch (11) connected across the bridge between opposing diodes. A transistor forms the interrupter (11) in the bridge diode interrupter unit (9). The mains (1) is connected via a series coil (7) across the small diameter fluorescent (2) and its parallel connected trigger and dimmer control circuit (3). The interrupter controls the duration for which heater (6) current is present for tube (2) operation, when the current is interrupted the inductive value of the coil (7) enables tube current to persist momentarily.
