PURPOSE:To enhance the warm-up ability of an engine upon low temperature and low load running of an engine, and as well to prevent the temperature rise of oil upon high temperature and high load running of the engine, by arranging a drainage of engine cooling water adjacently to the oil storing section of an oil pan. CONSTITUTION:A water temperature regulating valve 29 for checking the outlet flow of cooling water from a water jacket 25 formed in a cylinder head 22 when the temperature of cooling water is below a predetermined temperature upon, for example, starting of the engine, is disposed in the outlet side of the water jacket 25. An oil pan 34 is of a triple cylinder structure composed of an outer cylinder 35, an intermediate cylinder 36 and an inner cylinder 37, the outer cylinder 36 being connected with the intermediate clyinder 36 by means of an inner bottom 38 to form an oil storing section 39. Further, the inetermediate cylinder 36, the inner cylinder 37, the inetermediate bottom 38 and an outer bottom 42 define therebetween a drainage 43 for cooling water, which is adjacent to the oil storing section 39. The temperature of cooling water flowing through the drainage 43 is always controlled to be at a predetermined temperature so that lubricating oil is heated upon low temperature and low load running of the engine, but is cooled upon high temperature and high load running thereof. |
