<p>The method and equipment are for verification of the validity of credit cards in combination with a stamping device (4), with the card data read off magnetically or optically by a symbol reader. By allowing the card to pass a sunken groove (6) in a work surface (15), the groove having tracks for guiding purposes (7,8), it passes over a reading head (9,13, 14) which passes the read data to a mini-computer. The computer compares the data with that in its memory. It will then permit the card either to pass to its stamping position in connection with a purchase made, or will cause it to be retained, at the same time printing on a display (17) the reason for rejection. This alternative positioning of the card occurs using an electromagnetically controlled stop unit concealed in one of the tracks (7,8). (Provisional Basic advised week 83/51).</p> |
