PURPOSE:To effectively utilize an industrial waste and eliminate a pollution problem, by a method wherein crosslinked polyethylene scrap is passed through an extruder at a temperature higher than the melting point thereof to break the crosslinking chain, powdered and then mixed with polyethylene, rubber or the like. CONSTITUTION:The scrap of crosslinked polyethylene (preferably, one having a gel fraction ratio according to ASTM D2765 of at least 30%) is passed, through an extruder at a temperature 10 deg.C higher than the melting point thereof (e.g., 150- 170 deg.C for low-density PE, 160-180 deg.C for high-density PE, and below the oxidation starting temperature) and powdered. The obtained powder is mixed with polyethylene, other rubber or plastic and formed. With respect to the set temperature of the extruder, consideration should be given to the rise in temperature caused by the heat generated when the resin is sheared. A preferable cylinder revolution number is at least 20rpm.
|
