In a sorting device 10 for crown tops 11 with a deflector 14 for separately leading off crown tops 11 running on the base side or crown edge side in a feed shaft 12 in close succession, there is the risk, due to the deflection of the crown tops 11 at the deflector tongues that two crown tops 11 which are fed with their sides in the incorrect position will hook onto one another and block the device. This is avoided according to the invention in that in front of the deflector 14 the feed shaft 12' is guided in an arcuate shape about a part of the circumference of a separation wheel 13, which is driven by a motor at high speed, for the crown tops 11. This separation wheel 13 has on its circumference permanent magnets 22 which attract the crown tops 11 and bring about spacing between the crown tops 11 in front of the deflector 14. <IMAGE>
