The invention relates to a method and a device for drying bulk material, in particular temperature-sensitive cereals in a dryer, the drying zone of which consists of a number of treatment sections arranged above one another. The object of the invention is the energetic optimisation of the drying process, with the quality conditions for the material to be dried being maintained. The aim of the invention is to design the inventive solution in such a manner that the outgoing air (17) of the drying section (3') acted upon with a hot-air flow (9) is mixed with the outgoing air (19) of the diffusion section (3'') treated with a cool-air flow (18) and is supplied as drying medium (20) to a downstream warm-air section (3'''). Here, the drying medium (20) flows around the granular material, to be finally guided out of the dryer. If required, the drying medium (20) can be heated up directly or indirectly before entry into the warm-air section. To carry out the method, a collecting chamber (6) is arranged at the drying zone, which connects the drying section (3') and the diffusion section (3'') to the warm-air section (3'''). <IMAGE>
