In its centre the two-part housing (1) has an opening (2) using which the device is placed over the top part of the egg to have its top sliced off. Accommodated in the housing (1) are two jaws (3) which surround the opening (2). On their sides facing one another the jaws (3) have teeth (4). One end of each jaw (3) is provided with a guide slot (7) in which a bolt (8), fastened in the housing (1), engages. A stop pin (9) is furthermore provided on the inside of one end of each jaw (3) and a pressure member (6), running perpendicularly to the axis of symmetry of the device, is provided on the outside of one end of each jaw (3). Using one hand to actuate the two pressure members (6), the jaws (2) are brought together, the teeth (4) penetrating through the eggshell into the egg and thus cutting the top off the egg. The device is composed of a minimum number of components, is easily and reliably handled, and the production costs are kept relatively low. <IMAGE>
