A roller shutter has a roller shutter element with an elongate, cross-sectionally approximately rectangular hollow body (1) which has a cavity (4) and on one of its narrow sides an elongate, cross-sectionally hook-shaped extension (6) and on its other narrow side an engagement space (5) designed for the engagement of the extension and open along the narrow side via a gap (9). The cavity receives, seen in cross-section, a penetration-preventing insert (3) which extends essentially over its length and width. In order to improve the penetration-preventing effect of the roller shutter, there is provided on the outside of the roller shutter element and next to the engagement space a receiving space for receiving a likewise penetration-preventing insert (2). Seen in the plane of the roller shutter element and in cross-section, the insert extends in the receiving space essentially over the height of the engagement space. <IMAGE>
