In a belt feeder of an automatic gas-operated barrel weapon, the feed-shaft gearwheels provided for the cartridge feed are to be prevented from further rotation by a blocking position of a detent pawl, said blocking position being independent of the control means of the driving pinion. In particular, further movement outside the conveying movement necessary for the transport of the cartridge belts, for example by a belt conveyor, is to be avoided. The object is achieved in that the detent pawl 1 is positively connected in a circumferential direction to a detent-pawl coupling 4 which is arranged on the extended axle 6 of the driving pinion 3 and can be driven by the latter in one direction of rotation only and which can be uncoupled from the driving pinion in the axial direction by a displaceable lifting bush 5, whilst the detent-pawl coupling 4 is coupled to the driving pinion 3 within a specific range of rotation of the driving pinion 3 and the detent-pawl coupling 4 is uncoupled outside this range of rotation, and at the same time the detent pawl 1 has directly assumed an engagement position in a pawl gap of the pawl wheel 16, said engagement position being maintained even at the moment at which the driving pinion 3 is not being driven. <IMAGE>
