As a result, the inlet (32) of the feed channel (27) for an inoculant (28) is protected from splashes of smelt. The wall (8) also forms a passage orifice (20) between the chambers (9, 10). The cross-section of this passage orifice (20) is larger than the cross-section of the outflow orifice (38). <IMAGE>
