Process for preventing or delaying the formation of solid (bound) gypsum (CaSO4.2H2O) in connection with the purification of sulphur oxide-containing exhaust gases using a substance containing a calcium compound, which is contained, possibly together with a soluble binder, in a slurry, with which the ceramic packing can be coated in a manner in which it may be washed off, inorganic salts such as for example phosphate, pyrophosphates and acetates and/or high molecular substances such as proteins being added to the calcium compound-containing substance.
