The invention relates to a test standard for checking length-measuring instruments, which is formed from a support body and a plurality of end-measure pieces or shaped elements which are held in a defined position thereon. It is provided for the forced temperature stability of the test standard that a fluid under forced temperature stability can be applied to the essential, size-determining, supporting parts or wall parts of the support body in a thermally conductive fashion. The temperature-stabilising fluid is temperature-stabilised in a separate device within narrow limits, for example to 20 +/- 0.1 DEG C, and conducted at a high speed and/or rate of circulation through a corresponding duct system in the region of the supporting parts or wall parts. A two-dimensional distribution of the temperature-stabilising energy can be performed with the interposition of so-called heat tubes. Support bodies, constructed in the manner of a lattice tower, of stepped end measures can be temperature-stabilised by constructing the longitudinal bars in tubular form in the region of the cross-sectional corners, through which the forced temperature-stabilised fluid can flow.
