PURPOSE:To obtain an alkylated or dealkylated aromatic hydrocarbon, by subjecting an aromatic hydrocarbon to alkylation and/or trans-alkylation in the presence of a catalyst comprising a phosphorus oxide and crystalline galloslicate as main components. CONSTITUTION:An aromatic hydrocarbon (e.g., toluene, or benzene) is subjected to alkylation and/or trans-alkylation by using a catalyst comprising a phosphorus oxide and crystalline gallosilicate as main components. An amount of the phosphorus oxide is 0.1-20wt% calculated as P2O5 in the catalyst. Since only the alkylation is easily advanced when an alkylating agent is added to the reaction system, and only the trans-alkylation is easily advanced when the alkylating agent is not added to it, only of the reactions can be selectively advanced easily. The reaction conditions are 400-600 deg.C, normal pressure -10kg/cm<2>G, and 0.5-10/hr weight space velocity. |
