In order, on an open-end spinning machine (1), to make it possible to carry out a successive automatic yarn testing and yarn-quality monitoring, without being impeded by other maintenance or servicing operations, a special travelable yarn-testing device (29) is arranged on the front side of the open-end spinning machine (1), but behind the yarn running plane (27). Said yarn-testing device (29) is located in the gusset region limited by the spinning boxes (5), the machine frame (7), the yarn drawing-off and winding devices (6) and the yarn running plane (27). The yarn-testing device (29) can possess a plurality of yarn-defect measuring heads (30) fastened to jibs (33). It can be connected to an evaluation device (70) via a trailing cable. <IMAGE>
