By means of the device, portions of a paper or film web 14 are inserted between the food slices. The cutting apparatus with the knife 11 is controlled by a step motor which is started by the cutting machine cutting the slices. The triggering pulse of a further step motor, which drives the paper feed 4, is derived from the position of the cutting apparatus. A uniformly driven conveyor belt 6 extends between the paper feed 4 and the cutting apparatus 3. <IMAGE>
