The multi-cylinder multiple-expansion engine comprises parallel cylinders contg. reciprocating pistons, with piston rods secured to them. Each are coupled to a common output shaft via a cam follower roller in a cam track on a disc fixed on the shaft' The cam tracks are contoured such that, during expansion, the reducing expansion pressure produces a constant output torque, i.e. the steepness of the track slope increases with reducing pressure. Expansion takes place in e.g. three successive cylinders, the dia. of which increase with reducing pressure (triple expansion) such that the torque output per cylinder is the same. ADVANTAGE - Simple light-weight compact power unit producing optimum and uniform torque output.
