A dishwashing composition which is composed of a plurality of components which are in powder form, one of which is a caustic alkali, and which are processed in homogeneous mixture is proposed, wherein the caustic alkali is added with a particle size which is considerably larger than for the other components, and the mixture is compressed to a solid body with a density of more than 2 g/cm<3>. The solid body can have the form of a tablet or extrudate. Solid bodies of this type can be inserted into conventional metering vessels of large dishwashing systems and be dissolved by a jet of water, whereupon the caustic alkali which is present in larger particle size swells and disrupts the solid body.
